I left myself 5 hours for a 3.5 hour trip, and I was lucky I did. I95 was temporarily closed and at one point I went a whole 8 miles in just over an hour. As the minutes ticked away and the tires weren't moving I was really worried that I wasn't going to be anywhere near my scheduled 6pm start time. I called Jenn to let her know and I think she was a little nervous when I told her that I was still 150 miles away with just about 2 hours to showtime. 5 minutes after we hung up I finally passed the accident scene, which was now a swept up pile of glass, small plastic car parts, and used road flares. From there on out it was smooth sailing, and I pulled up to the house at about 6:10. Not bad, only 10 minutes late. 2 hours before this I would've been happy if you told me I would be there by 7.
I started to unload and found out that only 3 guests were already there, and I wound up having plenty of time before we started. I set up the mobile scent display and our products display with a few minutes to spare. Once the party got going we had a really good time. We played the guess that scent game, and learned that it's not so easy to recognize common everyday scents when you have no information from your other senses. Simple smells like apple and cinnamon are easy confused with orange and patchouli when you aren't holding them in your hand or looking at them directly. Guests found partners to play against, and then battled head to head for 4oz Body Milk prizes. The 4 oz Milks were each one in of our new scents, so the winners were some of the first to get their hands on the new flavors. The winners were determined by who guessed the most scents correctly versus their partner, and it seemed like everyone enjoyed it. In one particular match up, both players were having some trouble guessing the right scent. Both missed the first two, so I walked back to the display and picked out one of the easiest scents for the next round, baby powder. As I walked back to where they were sitting, one of them said, "Please give us an easy one...like baby powder". I think that woman was psychic.
I demonstrated the Microderm Abrasion kit, and then it was on to mixing scents. It was awesome to watch everyone dive into the scent display and start mixing up creations almost immediately. One of the guests, Rich, was really good at mixing up fragrances, and even better at giving them funny creative names. Unfortunately I can't discuss any of his masterpieces here because I know he will be using them for next months design your own scent contest, and I wouldn't want to give them away. After an hour or so of mixing, testing, and laughing, everyone placed their orders and it was time to pack up.
Pics from the party...
They all went out for drinks, and I headed home to NY. On the way back I drove past a rollover on I95, the second of the day. I want to take a brief second to ask everyone to buckle up and drive safely out there, it only takes a second to be upside down at 75 mph. I got home about 10 minutes before Dejah and the kids, and we spent another 2 hours uploading the party pics and going through the comments from everyone who attended. I want to thank everyone who came out to Jenn's party, and more importantly Jenn and Laura for being such great hostesses.
